Customer opinions for | www.catalog.com |
Chris ( ) at: 2007-03-02 Time Hosted: over 3 years General Rating: | Features: Customer Service: Cost/Price: Control Panel: | Catalog.com is a terrible ISP who engages in false advertising and fraudulent billing of their customers. I initially signed up for the free web hosting for life option upon registration of a new domain with Catalog.com. At first things were fine, until it came time for renewal of my domain upon which I noticed that my credit card was charged an abnormally high balance (higher than normal domain renewal fees) without my permission and without any balance statement from Catalog.com. I endeavored to ask Customer Service to explain the charges, which was a difficult and lengthy process since my emails were ignored and after multiple phone calls I was alternately put on hold forever or inexplicably disconnected (after being put on hold forever). When I finally did get a representative to respond to me, they claimed I had been on a monthly plan all the time. After more phone calls, I finally had another representative explain that Catalog.com had instituted a "Club" package, which they had gone ahead and charged their customers without prior consent. I immediately cancelled the "Club" package and right after noticed some more strange charges to my credit card. When I again tried to get in touch with Customer Service to explain the charges (which again was a difficult and lengthy process), the representative refused point blank to even speak to me because I was not on the "Club" package, which meant apparently that I no longer qualified for telephone tech support since I was not paying for the outrageous "Club" package fee. At that point, I went to the Catalog.com website and clicked every single "CANCEL" button possible to terminate my hosting with them and have never had a problem with my new web host since. P.S. I ate the charges on my credit card because I was frustrated and desperate to get out, but I encourage others with similar experiences to contact the Federal Bureau to report the fraudulent activities of web hosting companies and to dispute any fraudulent charges with your credit card companies.
