I have been trying to cancel this account for 18months, emails, phone calls and letters are frustratingly ignored and the bills keep coming. do not get involved with this company

After using 1&1 for many years it really pains me to say that they have gone from what was the best hosting sites around to nothing more than some backstreet, bottom feeding shylocks. Customer service is non existent, and shouyld you hit any problems with payment (they didn't take it- this can be because of cards expiring) they will cut you off, put you in touch with a credit recovery firm and try and charge you extra. I strongly reccomend that you do not use this company if you plan to run a business!

They have cost me a fortune.

They have the slowest webmail (test it in YSLOW), then have inaccessible ASP/ASP.NET hosting packages (what is the point of an MSSQL is you cannot get at your database?), they use Windows server Web Edition which is locked down so you can only FTP to it you cannot use any method to access your database, or RDC into it, as it assumes you have a VPN or LAN connection into it. If you just use HTML pages then ts fine. Thier is no phone number to call, a technical support center that occasionally responds. System error messages that have not been translated from German into English (they are a german company).
No business would host with them commercially and they are more aimed at hobby hosting or static hosting (eg FTP up your shopping site and pay elsewhere).
Just because they have loaded up the .NET2.0 run times that is not the same as saying your applications will work up there or can connect to your back office systems.
The biggest negative is Customer Service.

My experience with 1and 1 Internet is from the Ameican shores.I canceled my account before launching it..(MS Hosting).
The customer service is the same , no one seems to speak english or understand. THE BBB reports shows that 1and 1 has an UNSATIFACTORY RECORD..
To properly elaborate and and present a full expose , I have my own blogs http://1and1blog.blogspot.com http://1and1group.blogspot.com and so on...
Other groups I have encountered from the UK is http://bankraid.com and "was it really free" . I am in the proceess of making several reports, the BBB, Bureau of consumer protection and so on. I am no money out of pocket ,however I am short 1 credit card.

This company has many issues and the worst is when you try and move away. We found that although we followed all their instructions they failed to release the domains on transfer, then allowed them to expire without notification (going into redemption), then refused to help unless we paid them a fee and restarted another account with them.

Nice game of hostage. Buyer beware - don't trust this company with the domain registration they'll make you pay for it in every way possible.

We are formally complaining to the better business bureau - we suggest all other people who have been abused in this way do the same.

Absolutly THE worst organisation I have ever had dealings with, apparently you cannot cancel the agreement and they will go on collecting fees unless you cancel the card, and then BFS finance are instructed to sue for the fees which as we all know incures more costs. They should be struck off the planet !!!!!!!

Sigh, I only wish I had seen this before signing up.

The price is great but ask for support and you won't get anywhere. I phone three times over the last couple of days because they lost my site content files during some 'routine maintenance' which we weren't even warned about.

With three different operators the same thing happened. They could not even understand or take my account number down without me repeating it ad infinitum. When I did get past that elementary stage no-one could help with the issue. I had better luck by email but this was an urgent issue which was preventing access to my site and yet they would not respond in a timely fashion.

I've tried getting hold of some UK contact details but can only write to them which I suspect will be a complete waste of time. I found their fax number but again no response.

I cannot implore you enough, do not go here for hosting - they are a complete shambles and their support services are incredulous.

I don't know why I fool myself. Over quite a few years this dreadful company has been screwing up my web services, email services, administration and support.

I currently have five accounts with them - it is a cheap and cheerful way to obtain domains for customers and friends - but I currently have no email serevice to any of the five. Thats right, they have lost five out of five email services. They have been out for approximately a week.

Initially the tech support seemed causually interested, then anoyed and finally indifferent to the problem. Currently I have no email service and 1and1 don't even reply to my requests for tech support.

Ths is not the first time that I have had very serious problems with 1and1, though I was foolish enough to beleive thier explanations and appologies in the past I now realise they appear little more than a marketing scam.

When things work OK, fine, when they don't, who cares?? Certainly not these people, in my experience.

Unfortunately I travel very extensively and it is difficult to arrange transfers of hosts, but that has to be a priority when I return to the UK.

Please, please, do not get involved with this company. The last time I had this level of problem with them, I cancelled all my accounts but they kept on charging my credit card.

Eventually, I had to cancel my credit card with the bank and get a new card, in order to be sure that 1and1 would not be taking any more money to which they were not entitled.

I have a number of domains hosted on their Windows developer package. For the most part the service is ok. Good bandwidth, a full range of abilities through the control panel, etc. The biggest problem these folks have is their support. You can call their call center, based in the phillipines, explain to them the problems, and it seems to take forever to get resolved. In some cases they don't get resolved. They don't admit when they are having a problem, or at least are not forthcoming with their information. I've been promised account credits for downtime, after a fight on the phone, but they never materialized. Forums on a few sites I host, and other services that require write access to a database have been down on my site for over a day now. The problem is that they have globally changed the permissions on my directory space, and I am powerless to change them back. Very frustrating. I've called the call center 3 times on this problem over the past day, and sent a message through their web support/e-mail. All I get is "we can't help you sir". Very frustrating because if I had administrative access to the server I know I could change the permissions on it within 5 minutes. I can't get 5 minutes of an administrators time to fix a problem they have caused, and it is costing me time and money. My suggestion to anyone reading this is don't go to this hosting provider for service.

1and1 internet are rubbish! They are utterly inflexable and the customer service is shocking. They use VOIP which often makes the operators hard to understand, but this isn't helped by their sketchy command of the English language.

They may be dirt cheap. But the reason is that they pay their staff dirt and they provide you the customer with a cheap shoddy service that will leave you feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

This is probably the worst web hosting company in the UK. I maintain work and personal sites but was never able to make a site on this company's servers active.

Their help desk was no help at all and simply referred back to the instructions that hadn't worked before. Eventually I gave up and abandoned the attempt.

More than a year later 1&1 are sueing me. Apparently, their terms and conditions don't oblige them to actually provide a service. If you can't use their service you still have to pay. They are rude and officious and I regret ever getting involved with these cowboys.
